"Mission U" Metro Area Events

UMWlogoWednesday, July 19 | University Park UMC, 2180 S. University Blvd., Denver 80210
Friday, July 21–Saturday, July 22 | St. Andrew UMC, 9203 S. University Blvd., Highlands Ranch 80126

Co-sponsored by Rocky Mountain Conference United Methodist Women and Board of General Ministries Co-Deans: Rev. Jim Gulley and Nancy Gulley, Board of Global Ministries Assistant Dean: Janet Wolfer, United Methodist Women

Mission u brings together women, men, youth and children to explore the implications of our Christian faith in today's contexts. Participants learn and discuss together study topics related to spiritual growth, a geographic area and a current issue - leaving each Mission u better equipment to set faith into action.

Study topics for 2017 include the following:

Living as a Covenant Community: Covenants are found in the Bible from the moment God created man and woman until the last page of Revelation. We will discover that covenantal living calls us to acts of mercy and justice with all. As we grow to understand the divine covenants made by God with our ancestors, and thus with us, our faith and our lives will transform.

The Missionary Conferences of the UMC in the United States: The history of the three Missionary conferences in the US is a rich story. It is also a story about class and race. The aim of the study is to give an overview of these three conferences, the contexts out of which they grew, and their current engagements. What does the future look like for these conferences?

Climate Justice: Call to Hope and Action: This study is designed to deepen your understanding and awareness of climate change and its impact on God's creation. It will offer us Biblical, theological and ethical insights as a basis of our advocacy on climate justice in churches and in the public sphere.

2017 Mission u offers 1-day, 2-day and a Saturday event for families. View additional details and registration forms online

Scholarships: To encourage participation in Mission u, scholarships are being provided for first-time attendees at the two-day event scheduled July 21 and 22 at St. Andrew UMC. Two full scholarships (registration and hotel) are being offered - one for a clergy person and one for a lay person. Four partial scholarships (registration only) are being offered as well. If a scholarship would enable you to attend, please complete the online form and mail by June 1, 2017, as instructed.

New Two-Day Program: This year Missio u offers a two-day schedule with an opportunity to attend two studies. You can sign up for both days or just one. All three adult studies will be offered.

Saturday, June 22 is "Family-Friendly Day"

A Youth Study for those in grades 6–12 as of fall 2017 titled In Mission Together: A Study on Missionary Conferences led by Andy Millman focuses on three U.S. Missionary conferences of the United Methodist Church. It also offers oportunities for youth who are interested in relationship building and hands-on mission. Youth do not need to be accompanied by a parent.

Parents must accompany their children in grades 1–5 as of fall 2017 to the Child Study - God's Extravagant Garden: Climate Justice. Study leader Sherry Ferriman will encourage children to learn more about God's creating by experiencing it first-hand in a variety of settings and through arts and crafts.
