Dear Friends,
Not long ago a corporate
executive announced the establishment of an annual “Better Leadership
Award.” The inaugural honor was a posthumous award as the first recipient
was Christopher Columbus. The Italian-born explorer who crossed the Atlantic
Ocean four times to the Americas was selected for this new leadership recognition
for three reasons: 1) He started out not knowing where he was going; 2)
when he arrived, he did not where he was; and 3) upon returning he did not
know where he had been. I hope none of us ever wins that leadership award!
We are now on the eve of the Democratic National Convention right here in
the Mile High City. This week delegates will officially nominate candidates
to serve as President and Vice President of the United States for the next
four years. Next week in St. Paul, MN, the Republican Party will do the
same thing. This Sunday we will focus on leadership with a special timely
message, “WANTED: Transformational Leaders” from the epistle
lection, Romans 12:1-8.
